A x PROMISE x KEPT Part 2

Kyro unlatches the Relic of the Saint from his belt with one hand.
He doesn’t lift it.
He lets it go.
The conduit rises on its own, weightless, hovering beside him at head-height like it’s listening.
Kyro closes his eyes.
A quiet prayer — short, private, meant for nobody but the fire in his heart.
A hum flickers through the Relic’s pommel.
Heat waves rippled across the ridge.
Then—
Viper X’01 MOVES.
A blur cutting reality in a straight line.
Kyro shifts his head an inch.
The strike slices clean past his jaw — so close it tears a thin incision across his cheek.
Viper’s boots carve a trench behind her from the force as she snaps back into guard.
She recalibrates.
Masks whir.
The grip around her Katana tightens.
X’02 Jackal and X’04 Fox attack at the same time.
Two angles.
Two kill-lines.
Mechanical precision — perfect spacing, perfect timing.
Kyro steps forward.
Not back.
Forward.
Jackal’s blade whistles past his ribs as Kyro leans into the pocket, inside the guard.
Fox comes from above — a descending heel meant to shatter a spine.
Kyro’s palm rises.
One tap.
An inch of movement.
Fox’s throat folds around the strike.
The operative is airborne before he realizes it.
Metal chokes.
Internal circuits glitch.
His mask sputters as he falls through the air in a sideways arc.
Kyro exhales.
A sigil lights under his feet — faint gold, quiet, disciplined.
Not teleportation.
Alignment.
Kyro’s body shifts, reality bending just enough to place him exactly where he needs to be. Already waiting on the landing point.
Feet planted.
Hand open.
Relic humming beside him like a second heartbeat.
Fox crashes down in front of him, choking through distorted modulation.
Kyro doesn’t follow up.
He just says, low:
“Next.”

Fox hit the ground choking through a broken modulation. Alive still.
The other operatives adjusted instantly. A clean tactical shift.
Viper X’01 lifted her katana one-handed — the cobalt edge igniting with a pulse of synthetic aether.
Falcon’s boots hummed as he took to the air, six throwing blades in his hands like steel lethality.
Jackal snapped his rifle into full-draw mode; the barrel rotated with a rising whine, cycling ammunition types.
Spider lowered his center of gravity, emitter humming in his palm — neutralizer shot glowing a cold, dangerous white.
Kyro stood over Fox.
He rolled his shoulders once, loosening tension, as if asking: “Round two?”
The answer came fast.
Falcon dropped first — knives spinning in a tight helix.
Kyro stepped into the first blade, letting it pass clean over his shoulder, then angled his head just enough for the second to slice air instead of skin.
A third knife came from behind — Falcon trying to blindside him with a curve.
Kyro simply raised his hand.
A faint gold pulse rippled from his palm — A correction.
The blade’s trajectory bent just inches off course and buried itself harmlessly into the dirt.
Falcon stalled midair. recalibrating.
Jackal fired.
A concussive Aether round screamed across the ridge.
Kyro pivoted — minimal movement — letting it rip past his ribs and explode behind him in a shockwave of dust and ringing air.
Second shot.
Different pitch.
Different color.
A tether round meant to bind a summoner’s legs.
Kyro stomped once.
The Aerth answered.
The tether line hit a wall of stone instead and recoiled backward, snapping against Jackal’s own armor with a sharp crack.
Spider attacked next emitter flaring with a neutralizer blast lighting the space between them.
Kyro was too much.
He moved through Spider’s guard closing the distance between them, weaving past the emitter field by a margin so small even Spider couldn’t adjust in time.
He tapped Spider’s wrist — two fingers, nothing more.
The emitter glitched.
Flickered.
Shut down.
Spider stumbled back like someone had unplugged his spine.
Kyro’s expression didn’t change.
He wasn’t showing off.
He was stalling.
Buying seconds.
Then more seconds.
For Kit.
Behind them, Buck stood at the ridge’s edge silent, rigid, face half in shadow.
He didn’t react to the chaos.
But something inside him did.
Every time a blade sliced the air
Every time the rifle cracked
Every time Kyro bent the world with a gesture—the sap beneath his skin pulsed faintly.
Kyro felt it. Just one instance of unfamiliar Aether behind him —
but he couldn’t turn.
Not now.
Viper came in again.
Fast.
Faster than before — katana vibrating with cobalt light as she dragged it low and rising in a slicing arc meant to remove Kyro’s arm clean at the shoulder.
For the first time
Kyro tightened his stance.
The Relic floated beside him — hum sharpening — the dormant gold in its pommel sparking bright.
Kyro caught Viper’s blade in his palm.
The cobalt aether screamed against his skin but didn’t cut.
Viper’s mask tilted.
Confusion running across her HUD.
Kyro leaned in just enough for her to hear him.
“Still want to do this?”
Jackal chambered another round.
Falcon drew more knives.
Spider rebooted his emitter.
The Fist had no more words for Kyro.
Their weapons ignited at once.
A synchronized kill-pattern meant for something that should not exist.
Kyro grabbed the hovering Relic with one calm breath.
Time to buy Kit a little more.
