NATION OF NARDOX — OMIKAMI TERRACES — DAWN SUN
Heat rolled across the stone terraces in visible waves.
Rows of Omikami Samurai Summoners stood shoulder to shoulder, crimson armor dull against the glare of the twin Suns, blades grounded, eyes forward.
The only sound was breath held in discipline and the low hum of Aether settled deep in the ground beneath their feet.
Kariah stepped onto the upper terrace and stopped.
The formation stretched farther than she could count, ranks aligned with expertly-marked precision.
At the edges, solar cannons rested in their cradles, frames locked, barrels angled toward the horizon.
Engineers moved between them in short, efficient bursts, checking seals, adjusting rails, confirming alignment. Everything here pointed outward.
At the center of it all stood her father, hands moving as orders passed through the ranks.
Each gesture rippled across the formation, squads shifting as one body.
Beside him, Imani watched in silence. Soros stood just behind them, posture straight, gaze fixed on the lines with something close to approval.
Kofi stepped forward.
He didn’t raise his voice.
The heat carried his words the way it always did. Steady and absolute.
“Today, the World has called upon Nardox.” he said. “It has called upon each of you, brothers and sisters.”
Eyes stayed forward.
Grips tightened on grounded blades.
“Nardox was not built to observe history,” Kofi continued. “We were forged to shape it.”
“When power grows without restraint, threatening our very borders. We don’t ask permission. We don’t. We choose to survive.”
The line delivered truly like Kyros older brother.
A pause. Long enough for the weight to settle.
“Those who agree will stand with us. Those who doubt will be heard after the work is done. And those who choose to oppose what we protect…”
His hand closed into a fist over his heart. “We will meet them with the same resolve.”
The military formation answered him as one.
Steel grounding against stone, a single measured strike that rang across the terraces.
Kariah felt it in her chest. Soros’s gaze didn’t waver. Imani’s expression stayed calm, certain.
Nardox was no longer waiting.
Kofi turned back just before the officials closed in around him.
The tension slipped off his shoulders for a heartbeat and a grin cut through the heat.
“Hey, sunshine.” He said looking directly at his daughter.
Kariah smiled despite herself.
He winked once and was already moving again, drawn into a knot of commanders and aides. Voices overlapped. Orders traded hands. A busy man, already elsewhere.
Imani stepped off the terrace first. Soros followed, eyes still on the formations as they broke into motion. Columns flowing like a crimson river moving through the streets.
Kariah fell in beside them.
They walked past the last solar cannon as its housing locked into position, the glow steady and awake.
She broke the silence.
“I’m trying to understand, if peace depends on violence,” Kariah said, “what does that make us?”
Soros glanced down at her. There was no irritation there. Only admiration in her defiance. “It makes us decisive.”
Imani didn’t slow. “It makes us human,” she said. “Everyone stands for something eventually. We stand for each chiose.”
Kariah absorbed that quietly.
Ahead, the path split toward the inner halls. Behind them, steel moved and heat rose, and Nardox set itself into motion.
The questions stayed with her.
So did the answer she hadn’t found yet.
