NARDOX, THE CAPITAL CITY OF SOL - Festival Week Day 1

The Twin Sun Chariot rolled three floats behind the dragon.

Where the dragon had roared, the chariot burned with steady authority.

Two massive spheres of contained fire floated within the structure, each one the size of a small house. Their surfaces churned slowly like living stars, gold and white currents folding through molten light.

Arches of carved metal rose above them in the shape of twin suns.

Flame filigree stretched outward like solar flares frozen in bronze.

The float moved with deliberate weight.

People along Banner Avenue lowered their voices as it approached.

This was governance.

At the center platform stood Soros of Nardox.

He wore a deep sand-colored robe edged in bronze thread, the fabric catching the light from the burning spheres behind him. His posture was calm but his eyes never stopped moving.

He watched the parade the way a general watches a battlefield.

To his left stood Rob, arms folded, leaning slightly against the railing with the relaxed posture of a man who had already worked three disasters before breakfast.

Rob glanced down the avenue.

“Banner crew is ahead of schedule.”

Soros nodded once.

A young festival runner hurried up the steps at the rear platform, breath still catching.

“Marshal confirms Dragon Float cleared Drum Steps. Route is stable through Lantern Row.”

Soros didn’t turn his head.

Rob tilted his head toward the front of the route where the dragon’s glow flickered through the crowd.

“You let the Generals kids ride that float?”

“They were already scheduled to carry their academies banner.”

Rob gave him a sideways look.

“They look like they’re having the best day of their lives.”

“That’s the point.”

The chariot continued its slow roll down Banner Avenue.

On the lower platform several mayor-chiefs from neighboring cities stood in ceremonial dress. Bronze badges glowed on their collars as they watched the crowds with quiet pride.

One older chief from the river city of Aralon leaned toward Soros.

“You run a tight festival.”

Soros gave a small nod.

“Nardox respects its traditions.”

The chief gestured toward the terraces rising in stacked layers above them. Lanterns flickered along every balcony and stair corridor. Fire dancers moved through the streets between floats while musicians followed the drum lines downhill.

“Most capitals dream to hosts crowds this size.”

Soros finally allowed himself a small breath.

“Sol was built for it.”

The chariot reached the bend where Banner Avenue met the Sun Bridge corridor.

Below them the city opened.

Terraces dropped in glowing layers toward the distant arena district. Lantern lines stretched across streets like rivers of fire while the Halo Clock burned faintly in the skyline above everything.

Rob scanned the next section of route.

“Security posts?”

“Placed.”

“Crowd barriers?”

“Reinforced.”

Rob nodded once.

Then he leaned closer.

“You realize the entire Chamber of Suns is watching you right now.”

Soros’ eyes never left the parade route.

“They should be.”

Another runner climbed onto the float from the rear.

“Next section ready. Bridge corridor clear.”

Soros raised one hand.

The signal traveled instantly.

Festival marshals along the route lifted their staffs.

Drummers shifted the rhythm.

Ahead of them the dragon float entered the wide approach toward the bridge.

The crowd erupted again.

Rob watched the city move around them. Lanterns. Music. Firelight. Thousands of voices layered together.

He gave Soros a small sideways smile.

“You pulled it off.”

Soros looked down the glowing terraces of Sol.

The festival had only just begun.

“Still 6 days left, jobs not finished yet.” he said quietly.
